brussels - The use of biodiesel in the transport sector is much worse than thought for the environment, it eventually makes a detour even more emissions. This appears according to the environmental group Transport and Environment in a European Commission study.

The extra emissions resulting from the use of biodiesel in Europe comes to nearly 4 percent, or 12 million extra cars on the road, calculated the environmental group. The additional emission is mainly due to the use of land for the production of crops for biodiesel such as soybean and palm oil instead of regular food crops. It is therefore to be mined more agroforestry which presses on the environment.

The additional use therein of agricultural machinery, fertilizers and plants where the fuel is produced, contributing to additional emissions. Transport and Environment calls for the currently applicable maximum of 7 percent to scale back biofuel from agricultural to 0 percent in 2020.
