jakarta - In a former warehouse of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in the Indonesian capital Jakarta Tuesday a big fire broke out. A maritime museum is currently housed in the building. No one was injured by the fire, because employees and visitors could be evacuated in time. An important part of the collection has probably been destroyed.

In the department stores, important merchandise was stored in the seventeenth century, such as nutmeg, tea and coffee.

The maritime museum was established in 1976, including ships, shipping equipment and maps that illustrate how the islands archipelago consists of two thirds of water.
