Berlin waits troubled Sunday

berlin - Berlin prepares for a turbulent Sunday. The populist party AfD holds a large demonstration in the center and has provoked thirteen counter-demonstrations. The police will be massively present to prevent the activists from encountering each other in the streets of the German capital.

Alternative für Deutschland certainly expects 10,000 participants for the meeting Zukunft für Deutschland (Future for Germany). How many policemen have to manage things in the right direction has not been announced.

On Wednesday, several German media reported that the AfD pays people to come along. It concerns the department in the Land Rhineland-Palatinate. That gives the first thirty people who report fifty euros. The department confirmed that 1,500 euros was allocated for this. The money is intended as compensation for travel expenses to the demonstration.

The counter-demonstrations involve a varied list of organizers. There are, for example, a corso of protest boats on the river Spree and a circulating car with music that the AfD must 'scourge'. The police will be more concerned about left-wing groups that have shown themselves to be violent in the past and are also taking to the streets.
