Berlin bans Airbnb

World May 1, 2016 16:42

- Berlin bans the hiring of entire apartments to tourists through Airbnb and similar sites, in order to protect affordable housing. By threat of large fines, the German capital hopes the housing stock up to standard and the rents as low as possible.

The success of lease sites, the number of apartments that can be rented dropped significantly for the longer term. Berlin therefore brings from Sunday the new law 'Zweckentfremdungsverbot 'in contention, ie the prohibition to extract a property to the actual destination.

Berliners still rent their apartment, can be fined up to 100 000. They can still rent a room, but not a full house.

Berlin is not the only city where the Airbnb apartments cause problems. In Amsterdam, a property that is suitable for temporary rental soon worth a ton, which threatens a bubble in the housing market. The city has therefore limited the number of rental days per year to sixty.
