Belgium jailers point agreement '
brussels - Guards in Belgium remain on strike for the time being. Prison Staff pointed out en masse Monday a preliminary agreement on better working conditions.
The strike among staff of Walloon and Brussels prisons if it takes a month. The unions and Justice Minister Koen Geens reached last week an agreement in principle, but the jailers find the offer insufficient. The proposal provides for 480 additional staff, including 386 guards.
The situation threatens to become unsustainable in some prisons. The army and police jump to catch the guards deficit. Possibly the federal police is also required to run services in prisons.

Human rights organization Council of Europe last week showed very concerned about the situation because prisoners sometimes for weeks their cell could skies and were not allowed to speak to their lawyers or family. The Belgian state has lately repeatedly sentenced to penalties because of poor prison conditions.
