Belgian police are also testing tasers

brussels - In the wake of the Netherlands, the Belgian police will also use tasers. In fourteen police zones spread across the country, a pilot project of one year is being held with the electric shock weapons, Minister of the Interior Jan Jambon has decided.

During the trial period, one examines whether the weapon is not too dangerous and the training that agents get meets. The police trade unions were rather critical, but have since tacked. They actually want a change in law that should prevent agents from being charged with using the weapon. This adjustment may come at a later stage.

A pilot project involving tasers has been running in the Netherlands since February, involving almost three hundred police officers.
