Belgian blunder upon arrest politician

brussels - Upon the arrest of the Flemish parliament Christian Van Eyken on suspicion of involvement in murder was a mistake. The Public Prosecutor in Brussels therefore calls for his release.

The politician was arrested Tuesday, but the command to do so was not signed by the trial judge, let us know OM Thursday. The 61-year-old Van Eyken can no longer be arrested for similar charges.

Van Eyken is suspected of involvement in the murder of the husband of his mistress in July 2014. The 45-year-old victim was shot one and a half years ago. His 38-year-old woman, Van Eyken secretary, appeared to have a relationship with him and wanted to divorce her husband. She was arrested last October.

Van Eyken is in the Flemish parliament on behalf of the Union des Francophones.
