Barbie gets a headscarf

- Mattel is going to market a Barbie with a headscarf. The doll is inspired by Ibtihaj Muhammad. The screen star was the first athlete with a hijab.

Ibtihaj Muhammad was part of the American Olympic team. The Barbie is part of the Shero line, which honors women who have crossed boundaries. Also director Ava DuVernay and gymnast Gabby Douglas get their own Barbie.

At the Glamor Women of the Year Awards, Muhammad was allowed to introduce her Barbie. She is very proud of her copy.

It takes a while before the Barbie with a headscarf is for sale. Only in autumn next year is this Barbie in the store.
