Austria wants headscarf ban for officials

vienna - Officials and teachers may no longer wear a headscarf if they are in office. That is the essence of a law that is going to submit the Austrian Minister for Integration Kurz in parliament. Kurz (ÖVP), the law prepared jointly with the State Secretary Muna Duzdar (SPÖ). Duzdar himself an Arab background and Muslim.

If the law is adopted, it is stricter than similar laws in France and Germany. In France only banned the burqa and Germany held the highest court against a ban on headscarves in class.

Crosses and other Catholic manifestations remain otherwise permitted because ' Austria is a predominantly Catholic country and that crucifixes should know the historical cultural ', as the minister.

In March advised the ECJ companies that want to set up a headscarf ban to merge it with a total ban on religious symbols.
