sydney - A majority of the Australian population supports the introduction of homosexuality. A survey by the Australian Statistical Office (ABS) voted 61.6 percent of voters for introduction, 38.4 percent opposed.
Over three quarters of the voting rights took part.
The outcome of the vote is not binding, but the Australian government had already promised to send a bill for the introduction of marriage to parliament if voters expressed their support.
Australia would be the 36th country that introduces marriage to partners of equal sex.
