Australia offers Assange consular assistance

World February 6, 2016 01:14

sydney - Australia has consular assistance offered to Julian Assange. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop spoke this week about the lawyers of the whistleblower, who has 3.5 years,, arbitrary 'locked according to a working group of the UN in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

,, I repeated to his lawyers which is our offer of consular assistance, he was in need, '' Bishop showed on Saturday. The Australian Assange lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, told the Sydney Morning Herald that the conversation was positive with the minister.,, We have asked to release his passport or him immediately to issue a new passport and assist in negotiating a solution. ''

Assange asked in June 2012 for asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy. The British authorities wanted to arrest him on the basis of an arrest request from Sweden. The Swedish prosecutor wants to question him about a rape case, but Assange thinks this is a setup to get him extradited. He fears that the British and Swedish authorities want to eventually extradite him to the US, which would prosecute him for divulging secrets.
