Assembly agree to extend state of emergency

- The French parliament on Tuesday approved an extension of the state of emergency in the country. Hence the authorities may also use the next three months extensive powers in the fight against terrorism. The French Senate voted earlier with the extension.

The state of emergency imposed after the Paris attacks of 13 November in which 130 people were killed. The measures enable the police to carry out inter alia allow searches without the intervention of a judge. The government says that the additional powers are necessary to doubt in the fight against terrorism, but civil rights movements in the value of the measures.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said in the Assembly that it is still too early to take stock after three-month state of emergency. The terrorist threat is greater than ever, he said.
