asunciĆ³n - Protesters on Friday (local time) stormed the parliament of Paraguay and that arson. They did this in protest against a secret ballot in the Paraguayan Senate, earlier on Friday, which should allow reelection of President Horacio Cartes.

The assault came after hours of clashes between protesters and police in front of parliament in the capital Asuncion. During the disturbances were several journalists, politicians and cops injured, local media reported. President Cartes, a soft drink and tobacco magnate, called on Twitter for calm.

The vote took place in a closed room in the parliament building, rather than in the Senate itself. The law was supported by 25 senators, two more than the needed 23 votes in the 45-seat Senate. Before elected in 2013 Cartes itself for re-election, the pro-government House of Representatives must still consider the amendment for a new five-year term.

A similar proposal did not make it in August. Last week, Congress voted for an amendment that allows to vote on the same bill within a year.

Opponents of the law is not valid and moreover a threat to democracy in the South American country. ' A coup has been executed. We oppose and invite the people to do that, 'said Desiree Masi, senator for the Democratic Progressive Party.

According to the President can not be reelected constitution introduced in 1992. Three years earlier had put an end to the junta that had ruled the South American country with an iron fist.
