bonn - Climate reforestation is becoming increasingly important in the fight against climate change. 'Rainforest can also re-emerge,' said German Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks during the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF). All possible seeds are still present in the deeper soil layers. 'If you finally stop mining and return the burnt-out land to nature, the old vegetation will return.'

The plans of GLF, which is the result of the global climate conference in this specific area, were presented Tuesday as the 'Bonn Challenge'. This has set the goal to get a total of 150 million hectares of deforested area back to its former glory worldwide by 2020. That is roughly four times the area of Germany. 'We now have commitments from many countries, even for about 160 million hectares,' says Hendricks.
