Alps catch their breath, but avalanche danger remains

davos - The peace in the Alps has returned for a while. After the heavy snowfall of last week, there will be hardly any precipitation in the next two days and temperatures will rise. However, the avalanche danger remains considerable.

The avalanche threat was lowered Wednesday to level three of five, according to the Swiss aviation research institute SLF. In recent days, the highest threat level in large parts of the ski area was due to the exceptional snowfall in the last six days.

Many roads and villages were temporarily impassable. Meanwhile, most roads are free of snow and most places are accessible, reports the ANWB. In Switzerland, only the village of Zermatt has been closed by the snow for the time being. More precipitation is expected from the weekend.
