All Kenyan TV channels back in the air

World February 8, 2018 14:24

nairobi - All Kenyan television channels that went black after an action by the opposition are now back in the air. Television channel Citizen TV itself announced that the broadcasts were resumed.

The authorities fired several commercial television stations after the symbolic presidential inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga. The broadcasters did a live report of the ceremony against the will of the authorities. The measure led to international criticism.

Previously, the other channels could resume their broadcasts. It is still unclear why Citizen TV stayed out for longer. Government officials have not yet provided any explanation.

Odinga lost the presidential election on August 8 from incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta, but the Supreme Court subsequently declared the ballot to be invalid. The opposition leader did not take part in the 'resit', because according to him these elections would not be fair.
