washington, d.c. - US President Joe Biden made a blunder by confusing the date of his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Biden claimed he has known Putin for 47 years, which is not accurate.

Current US President Joe Biden, who will hand over his duties on January 20, confused the date he met Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking to new Democratic members of Congress at the White House, Biden said, 'I've known Vladimir Putin for 47 years'.

Biden, who will hand over his duties to Donald Trump, the winner of the 60th presidential election, on January 20, claimed to have known Russian leader Putin for 47 years.

Biden said, 'I have known Vladimir Putin for 47 years'.

Biden said, 'I remember meeting him between the time I was elected and sworn in. Or just after. No, sorry, before that. No, right, just after taking office, in early February.'

Biden took office on January 20, 2021.

THEY MET FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2021

Russian President Putin and current US President Biden first met in June 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland. The two leaders spoke on the phone on February 12, 2022, and had a video conference towards the end of 2022.

In an interview in June 2024, Biden claimed to have known Putin for 'over 40 years'.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov suggested to the Russian news agency TASS how Biden could have known Putin for such a long time.

CAME TO THE USSR IN THE 1970S

Forty-seven years ago Biden, who served as a senator in the state of Delaware, visited the Soviet Union several times starting from the late 1970s. In 1978 when Biden visited the USSR, Putin was serving as an officer in the Soviet Union's intelligence and secret service, the KGB.

Putin was appointed to East Germany in 1985 and served there until the early 1990s.
