Again major drug seizure in port of Antwerp

antwerp - Belgian customs have again done a large drug seizure in the port of Antwerp. In a control action, 1561 kilos of cocaine was intercepted, reports the Ministry of Finance. On Friday, 1727 kilos of cocaine had already been seized.

The new drug shipment was hidden in a container with tree trunks originating from Colombia and has a street value of more than 75 million euros. Friday it was a container with bananas from Ecuador that was unloaded in the Waaslandhaven. These drugs have an estimated street value of more than 80 million euros.

According to the EU drugs agency (EMCDDA), the availability of cocaine in the European Union is increasing. Cocaine is smuggled more often through northern container ports. According to the agency, the Belgian ports are increasingly important. Almost half of all cocaine seizures in Europe are done there.
