hambach - A few thousand environmental activists from all over Europe have occupied a railway line of energy giant RWE near Hambach in Germany just over the border near Heerlen. Lignite is being transported from the lignite quarry to power plants via this track. There are also 140 Dutch people among the activists.

'With the action, a cry for help to society is being heard to massively revolt against the fossil fuel industry in order to prevent the urgent threat of climate chaos,' says a spokeswoman for the Dutch delegation. The protest also focuses on damage caused by the mining of lignite in the landscape.
