harare - The military intervention in Zimbabwe appears to be a coup, said Alpha Conde, foreman of the African Union and President of Guinea. Conde stressed that it is clear that the Zimbabwean army is trying to seize power, says British Sky News Sky.

'The African Union is deeply concerned about the situation in Zimbabwe,' said Conde. The AU's topman called all parties to restraint. South African president Jacob Zuma sent an envoy to Zimbabwe. He has to talk about the crisis with the army.

The Zimbabwean army has placed 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe under house arrest. Also, the soldiers took control of the state television. The army revealed that there was no coup d'état, but it was an action aimed at 'only on criminals' around the president.
