Old photos are often dusty. Before you start scanning, it is a good idea to gently with a dry microfiber cloth to dust off so that the particles do not show up on the scans. Photos are also susceptible to fingerprints, so try as much as possible to stick to the edges.

Your scanner is probably dusty and perhaps greasy fingerprints, so make the plate clean and dry before you have a picture on the moors.

Zoom all the way out and see if the overall color of the picture seems okay. Old photos are in fact often discolored. In that case, you can correct the image often automatically, but often gives manually adjust a truer result.

When you're all done editing a photo, you must save it in the highest possible quality. This takes up more space, but if you have taken the trouble to scan your photo collection and editing, it is actually more important that you store it in a proper way. This is after all a repository of all your precious photos.

To a particular photo or set of photos quickly to find, it is convenient to organize your photos on to you the obvious way in a folder structure- for example, date, event, location, and so on.

Make sure you save your photos safe, so all was not in vain work. An external hard drive is a good option, but I guess also especially to use one or more cloud services as a hard drive can break, can be stolen, or may lose. It is the intention that your electronic records remain available, even if the original photos are lost.
