The weather will determine whether there is a hasty rescue operation for the Thai football players locked up in a cave or that they can come out of their plight on foot. It is expected that within a few days, and certainly on Saturday, there will be so much rain in the Chiang Rai region that a tidal wave will flood the place where the boys find themselves. But if the tropical rain showers wait a little longer, the cave, from which water is pumped with all its might, falls so dry that the football players can escape on foot or floating with lifejackets.

It is an exceptionally dry day for the season in Mae Sai, the northernmost district in the province of Chiang Rai on the border with Myanmar, where twelve teenagers and their soccer coach have been trapped for 11 days in a flooded cave system.
