UN topman wants Spanish investigation into violence

UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein has urged the Spanish authorities for a thorough, independent and impartial investigation into all violence on Sunday at the referendum in Catalonia.

'I am very disturbed by the violence,' says the Human Rights Director. 'Police actions must be proportional and necessary at all times. '

Zeid advocates a solution through the path of dialogue with respect for democratic values. He also wants Spain to allow visits of human rights experts from the UN organization.
