Tsipras promises more money and less tax

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has promised his compatriots to gradually raise the minimum wage and pensions in the coming months and years and to reduce the tax burden.

Athens will take all necessary measures in proper consultation with the creditors. 'We are determined to keep to the agreements,' Tsipras said Saturday night in an opening speech on TV broadcast for a trade fair in the northern port city of Thessaloniki. He stressed that the Greek economy is growing and unemployment is steadily declining.

Not every Greek is already satisfied. There were fierce demonstrations in Thessaloniki on Saturday. The police scattered the crowd throwing stones with tear gas, but could not prevent a boulder from flying through the window of the town hall.
