Sound attack on US officials in China

An employee of the US consulate in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou has been diagnosed with minor brain damage after complaining about strange sound sensations.

The American had vague but serious complaints from the end of 2017. Upon returning to the US, the brain damage was found. A spokesperson for the US Embassy in Beijing said that both the embassy and the Chinese authorities are doing research. The issue comes at an unfortunate moment, now that the US and China are having difficult consultations about trade between the two countries and about North Korea.

The incident resembles a previous incident, in which American diplomats in Cuba suffered hearing damage. They also suffered from insomnia. According to the American government, they were the victims of a noise attack. Who is responsible for that is still not clarified.
