Number of deaths caused by forest fires Portugal rises

The number of deaths in Portugal has risen to 64.

In the region of Pedrógão Grande, hundreds of firemen are still fighting fire. This is severely hampered by the high-temperature and windy weather conditions.

The fires started Saturday by lightning strike in the region about 200 kilometers northeast of the Portuguese capital Lisbon. These are the deadliest forest fires in Portugal since human memory.

Among the dead are many occupants of cars attacked on a regional road by the fire.
