New oil slick threatens French coast

The Grande America cargo ship that sank earlier this week in the Bay of Biscay is still leaking oil.

The container boat disappeared in the waves on Tuesday after a day-long fire. Two kilometers of oil tracks were spotted on Thursday in the vicinity of the disaster site. This is probably oil from the fuel tanks that poses a serious threat to the environment and the beaches of the departments of Gironde and Charente-Maritime, around and north of Bordeaux. Fighting pollution at sea is difficult due to bad weather.
