NATO countries meeting in Brussels: Trump eye-catcher

The leaders of the 29 NATO countries meet in Brussels on Wednesday for a two-day summit.

The first leaders are expected in the morning at the new headquarters. They are greeted at 1.15 pm by NATO CEO Jens Stoltenberg, after which a group photo is taken, followed by the opening ceremony.

The first and most important work session starts at 14.30. The leaders will agree to speed up the military response capacity, increase the readiness of the troops and promote a 'military highway' through Europe. Two new command centers in the US and Germany receive green light.

The company moves to the European district in the evening, where they dine in a museum in the Parc du Cinquantenaire. Russia is then an important topic for discussion. The Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs have separate work dinners there.

On Thursday, the summit will continue with meetings with the presidents of the partner countries of Georgia and Ukraine. They are not yet ready to start accession negotiations, but Macedonia does get a good view of it.

The last working session is about the NATO mission Resolute Support in Afghanistan. The closing press conference is scheduled for 12.45 hours.

On behalf of the Netherlands Prime Minister Rutte and Ministers Blok (Foreign Affairs) and Bijleveld (Defense) are present.
