Metro London stops with ladies and gentlemen

The London subway defines the phrase 'ladies and gentlemen'.

The responsible public transport for London (TfL) has announced that pre-recorded announcements are also on the run. 'We want everyone to feel welcome in our transport network,' explained TfL's customer strategy. The language used in communications must take into account the 'enormous diversity' of the London population.

TfL does not rule out that 'well-meaning employees' will occasionally use the term 'ladies and gentlemen'. If that occurs too often, staff will be reiterated on the new policy. The measure is supported by Stonewall interest organization, which is committed to the rights of lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender (lhbts).
