Kruidvat discriminated blind customer

Drugstore chain Kruidvat has discriminated a blind woman by not accompanying her during shopping, judges the College for Human Rights.

The woman asked Kruidvat's staff to guide her to the arm through the shop. Kruidvat rejected this request and suggested collecting the desired products for the woman using a shopping list. The woman refused this because she wanted to shop as independently as possible.

The desire of the blind woman to shop as independently as possible complies with the principle of equal treatment on the grounds of disability or chronic illness.

According to Kruidvat, the woman's request was virtually unworkable, partly because of employee safety.
