Helmut Kohl not in family grave

Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1930-2017) is buried in Speyer and not in the family grave in Ludwigshafen.

According to Diekmann, it was the wish of Kohl, born in Ludwigshafen, because he had already attracted himself from childhood to the old town and the Romanesque cathedral of Speyer of the 11th century.

Kohl died in his home in Ludwigshafen on Friday. The Christian Democrat Kohl was a convinced European who ruled the Federal Republic from 1982 to 1998. He is solemnly celebrated as a major European in July 1st in Strasbourg. He is immediately transferred to the 120 km north-facing Dom of Speyer before the church funeral.
