Gulf states support Jordan with billions

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates support Jordan with an aid package worth around $ 2.

The shaky economic situation in Jordan led to large-scale protests there. Thousands of Jordanians took to the streets to protest against the economic policies of the government. King Abdullah earlier this month dismissed Prime Minister Hani Mulki in an attempt to curb the unrest. His successor deleted a controversial tax plan.

Jordan is struggling with high government debt and unemployment. The influx of one and a half million refugees from Iraq and Syria has further worsened the financial situation. The aid package of the Gulf States must alleviate the pressure. They may fear that the unrest will spread to other countries in the region.
