Great natural fire at Athens under control

Firefighters got a big wild fire to the north of the Greek capital, Athens, on Wednesday.

A number of thousands of hectares of forest and dozens of houses have been destroyed in the past few days.

The fire broke out in the coastal town of Kalamos, about 45 kilometers northeast of Athens. Guarded by the hard wind, the fire switched over to three other places.

Elsewhere in Greece there are about thirty forest fires, including on the peninsular Peloponnese and on the tourist countries of Zakynthos and Kefalonia.
