Drunk driver obliged to morgue

Thailand is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to go on the road. In a study by World Atlas, which compared official figures of countries, Thailand is number one with an annual 36.2 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.

An important cause for the high number of deaths in Thailand is alcohol in traffic. Also, moped riders often do not wear helmets, many of whom are foreign tourists who have hardly any experience with riding in the hills on the islands.

Thailand introduced a remarkable measure last year to reduce the figures: every convicted drunk driver waits a mandatory visit to the local morgue. They get to see, to their dismay, a road death to come to repentance.
