Brussels prohibits disposable plastic

Cotton buds, straws, disposable cutlery and plates, balloon sticks, stirrers and other plastic disposable items for which there are sustainable and affordable alternatives should be banned if it is up to the European Commission.

The daily EU administration has the ten plastic disposable items that are found most on the beach in sight. They account for 70 percent of marine litter.

The use of plastic drinking cups, food trays, crisps, balloons and meal packaging must be reduced by allowing manufacturers to pay for cleaning up, according to Brussels. A contribution is also requested from cigarette manufacturers.

Nine out of ten plastic bottles should be collected separately in 2025.
