British government escapes brexit defeat

The British government has escaped a sensitive defeat in the House of Commons, the British House of Representatives.

The British House of Lords had previously agreed to the amendment, which gives the parliament more powers. Parliamentarians were given the opportunity to send the government back to the negotiating table if they were not satisfied with the final agreement with Brussels on the so-called brexit.

The government was fiercely opposed to that amendment, which was submitted to the House of Commons on Tuesday. Finally, 324 of 298 parliamentarians voted against the proposal. The outcome of that vote was not fixed. In order to appease doubters in their own ranks, the government would have made concessions according to British media. There is still a lack of clarity about what that is exactly about.
