Manchester City Re-sign James Trafford in £27m Deal
Manchester City has hijacked Newcastle United's move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford by agreeing on a £27 million deal to bring him back to the club. This comes two years after City allowed him to leave for Turf Moor.
Trafford's Return to Etihad
James Trafford, an England under-21 international who earned a call-up to the senior squad last year, will sign a five-year contract with City, with the option for an additional 12 months at the end of the deal.
City's Strategic Move
City's initial plan was to offload either Éderson or Stefan Ortega before re-signing Trafford. However, when Newcastle made a bid for Trafford, City matched the offer to bring him back to avoid losing him to another club.
Competition for No. 1 Spot
With Ederson likely to stay, Trafford will now compete with him for the starting goalkeeper position under Pep Guardiola's management. The deal to re-sign Trafford is seen as costing City just £13m, having sold him for £14m two years ago.
