Authorities: 71 dead in Grenfell Tower

71 people lost their lives because of the inferno in the London Grenfell Tower.

It concerns seventy people who died during the fire and a stillborn child. That last victim died after the heavily pregnant mother had escaped from the burning building. She inhaled a lot of smoke.

The police said they would take about eighty deaths earlier. The fact that the death toll is lower is partly due to the fact that some people have been reported as missing several times. Police chief Stuart Cundy said that experts went to great lengths to identify victims.

Police officers and specialists searched every apartment and all community spaces in the building to find the remains of victims. 'Specialized teams in the Grenfell Tower and the mortuary have searched the limits of what was scientifically possible to identify people,' Cundy said.
