antwerp - Students in Antwerp were shocked to find squatters living in their basement and using a cardboard box as a toilet.

Students in Antwerp made a shocking discovery when they found squatters living in their basement for weeks. The students, who wish to remain anonymous, stumbled upon the squatters' belongings - pillows, suitcases filled with clothes and shoes, and a cardboard box used as a toilet - while the cleaning lady was retrieving her supplies to clean the common area. The students immediately notified the landlord and the police about the situation.

The police arrived a few hours later and listened to the students' account, inspected the basement, and instructed the students to remove the squatters' belongings with rubber gloves provided by the police. The students were advised to contact the authorities if they saw the squatters again.

Despite the police intervention, the students were left to deal with the situation on their own as the authorities claimed they could do little to resolve the issue. The students refrained from cleaning the basement as per the landlord's instructions. However, they did report seeing the suspected squatters near their student residence after the initial discovery.

The students suspected that the squatters gained entry through a broken door. Concerned for their safety, the students took precautionary measures by securing the door with a bike lock. Fortunately, the lock was promptly repaired the next day.

Prior to the discovery, food and drinks had gone missing from the communal refrigerator, leading the students to believe that the squatters were responsible. The unsettling experience left the students feeling fearful and uneasy, but it also brought them closer together as a supportive group. They spent many evenings bonding and comforting each other following the incident.

Furthermore, the night before the discovery, one of the students was harassed outside the student complex, presumably by one of the individuals living in the basement. Reviewing CCTV footage, the students identified the squatters loitering around the building for approximately two weeks prior to the incident.
