A study conducted by University College London analyzed the mood of nearly 50,000 adults over two years, revealing that people feel happiest on Mondays and Fridays. On these days, individuals report higher levels of happiness, life satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. However, these positive thoughts tend to decrease on Sundays.
The research also indicated that mental health tends to be better in the summer compared to winter. Depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as feelings of loneliness, are less prevalent in spring, summer, and autumn. These findings were published in the BMJ Mental Health journal.
"Overall, things seem to go better in the mornings," concluded the researchers. These observations may be attributed to physiological changes associated with the biological clock, such as the peak of the stress hormone cortisol shortly after waking up. Additionally, differences between weekdays and weekends could be linked to variations in daily activities.
