Swiss Village Blatten Fully Evacuated Due to Landslides Threat
Blatten, a village in the Swiss Alps, faces evacuation as landslides, particularly the Beichgletsjer glacier's instability, pose a severe threat. Initially, 92 residents and 16 tourists were evacuated, but now all 300 residents must leave. They are temporarily accommodated in nearby Wiler.
Immediate Risk of Landslides
Authorities observed deep sinkholes and significant cracks during an aerial survey, leading to the decision to evacuate the entire village due to the imminent risk of landslides.
A few months ago, the Swiss mountain village of Brienz also faced a complete evacuation due to the threat of a rock avalanche.
