brussels, belgium - The European Commission will conduct a stress-test on social media to ensure fairness in the upcoming German elections.

Brussels Prepares for Stress-test on Social Media

In anticipation of the German elections, the European Commission will hold a stress-test on social media next week. Brussels and Berlin will convene a 'round table' with representatives from X, TikTok, and Facebook to discuss their role in ensuring fair elections in Germany. This marks the second time Brussels is conducting such a test, following a similar investigation during the European elections.

Germany is gearing up for next month's elections amidst concerns in Brussels about potential interference, particularly from Russia. The EU executive power is also scrutinizing the algorithms of X. Worries in the European Parliament persist over X-owner Elon Musk potentially favoring the far-right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) through his platform, as Musk has expressed support for the AfD.

TikTok recently made negative headlines after reports from Romanian intelligence services indicated that Russia used the platform in a campaign to support a presidential candidate critical of the EU and NATO. Following the intelligence warning, the highest court invalidated the first round of the presidential elections.
