Leeds Signs Slovenia Center-Back Jaka Bijol

Leeds, the newly promoted Premier League club, has successfully completed the signing of veteran Slovenia defender Jaka Bijol. The 26-year-old center back has joined on a five-year contract, with a reported transfer fee of approximately £15 million paid to Udinese.

International Experience

Bijol, with 63 international caps for Slovenia, showcased his defensive prowess at the 2024 European Championship, notably helping his team hold England and Portugal to goalless draws. Despite the strong performance, Slovenia was eliminated by Portugal in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout.

Upcoming Campaigns

Slovenia is set to kick off their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in September, facing tough competition from Switzerland, Sweden, and Kosovo in their group. Meanwhile, Leeds, under the ownership of 49ers Enterprises, will start their Premier League season by hosting Everton on Aug. 18.
