berlin - Bundestag discusses motion to ban Alternative für Deutschland party due to its threat to democracy.

CDU Politician Pushes for Ban on AfD

A 49-year-old politician from Saxony, representing CDU, faces threats after labeling AfD as a threat to democracy. The motion aims to prove AfD's danger to the democratic constitution established in 1949.

CDU broke a long-standing taboo by voting with AfD to curb illegal migration at the border, sparking heated debates. The initiator argues that the German government cannot tolerate AfD any longer without causing irreparable damage in the long run.

Despite the push for a parliamentary ban, upcoming early elections in a month raise doubts about the ban's feasibility. AfD dismisses the idea as 'absurd,' while Wanderwitz points to radicals and terrorists within the party, labeling AfD as the parliamentary arm of right-wing terrorism.

It is challenging to ban a party in Germany, as seen in the case of the NPD in 2017. However, with over a fifth of German voters supporting AfD, concerns over the party's extremist nature persist.

With alleged support from Moscow and the Trump administration, AfD's influence continues to grow. Elon Musk, a Trump advisor, has urged Germans to vote for AfD through his network X.
