Ransomware on TV
Ransomware is a danger not only for computers, tablets and smartphones.
It is an older smart TV running Google TV. That project Google ran between 2010 and 2014. LG has now switched to WebOS.
The infection was first reported by software developer Darren Cauthon, the family of the victims. He says the owners had downloaded an app to watch a movie. The hostage message would have appeared halfway through the film.
Symantec and Trend Micro security guards there last year already managed to put malware on a smart TV.
