Mayor Gdansk stabbed

The mayor of the Polish city of Gdansk Pawel Adamowicz (53) was seriously injured on Sunday evening when a man stabbed him at a charity meeting.

The attacker stormed the stage according to Polish media and attacked the mayor with a knife. According to witnesses, the man shouted that he had been innocent in prison during the previous government, which was led by Adamowicz's former party. The man was overpowered and arrested on stage. He is a 27-year-old resident of Gdansk with a criminal record, who provided access to the meeting with a press card.
