zimbabwe - Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has signed a law abolishing the death penalty in the country, converting existing death sentences of 60 prisoners to life imprisonment.

In a recent development, the government of Zimbabwe announced that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has signed a bill abolishing the death penalty in the country.

As a result, the current death sentences of 60 prisoners have been converted to life imprisonment.

The last execution of a death penalty in Zimbabwe took place in 2005.
