spain - LaLiga clubs reveal special retro jerseys for upcoming matches, inspired by historical designs and iconic eras of Spanish football.
LaLiga Teams to Sport Retro Jerseys in Unique Event
LaLiga is set to host a special retro fiesta where top Spanish teams will play matches in throwback kits created for the occasion. The event will take place on matchdays spanning April 10-13, with 17 out of 20 teams showcasing their nostalgia-laden shirts at Madrid Fashion Week.
Unique Designs Inspired by Football History
The retro jerseys pay homage to iconic moments and styles in Spanish football history. Alavés revisits their 2000-01 UEFA Cup final shirt, while Athletic Club draws inspiration from the 1970s. Atlético Madrid goes back to their 2022 retro kit, and Barcelona offers a design reminiscent of their previous season's home kit.
Other standout designs include Elche's resurrection of their 1991-92 kit and Espanyol's vibrant salute to the early 1990s. Levante's retro kit nods to their formation in 1907, while Mallorca's design channels the early 2000s with a 'Total 90' look.
Notable Omissions and Best Efforts
Some clubs like Getafe, Rayo Vallecano, and Real Madrid will not participate in the retro kit showcase. Real Betis impresses with a design blending four decades of history, while Real Sociedad's kit reflects the final seasons at the historic Atotxa stadium.
Villarreal's muted tones from the early 2000s stand out as one of the best designs, evoking memories of their rise in European competition with players like Juan Román Riquelme.
