Two workers lost their lives and five others were injured in an explosion at a zinc factory owned by Kazzinc in Oskemen, Kazakhstan. The incident occurred at one of Kazakhstan's largest zinc production complexes.
Cause of the Explosion
According to the Emergency Ministry, the explosion was caused by trapped gas igniting in the dust collection unit, leading to a subsequent fire.
Response and Cleanup Efforts
Authorities stated that emergency teams managed to extinguish the flames that spread across approximately 120 square meters and dealt with a structural collapse of 220 square meters in the workshop. Rescue and cooling operations are ongoing at the site.
Operational Center and Investigation
An operational center has been set up in the region with around 80 personnel and 18 vehicles involved in the response. Search and rescue dogs, medical teams, and drones are aiding in the efforts. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
