- The Sakurajima volcano in southern Japan has erupted Friday with much violence. Lava spurted in fountains up and flowed down the slopes of the mountain down, reports the Japanese meteorological service.
The volcano on Kyushu, the southernmost main island of Japan, stirs more often. 30 kilometers from the volcano, the Sendai nuclear plant, but it does not seem at risk.
